Bilingual Teacher

Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a Bilingual Teacher. This role provides Spanish and English instruction, resource and diagnostic services, instruction in English and Spanish language development and acquisition, and native language instruction to second language learners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be familiar with or have experience in a dual language program
• Screen all students entering with Spanish language backgrounds
• Plan and deliver English and Spanish language development programs for eligible students
• Assess the progress of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as needed
• Confer with parents and teachers concerning individual students
• Assist the diagnostic teams to help determine the needs of the students
• Consult with classroom teachers regarding curriculum modifications necessary to meet the needs of the second language learner
• Maintain records on program students
• Maintain and improves professional competencies by attending workshops and conferences
• Attend staff meetings at building and district level; serves on district committees as needed
• Assist in curriculum planning as needed
• Provide staff development based on building and district needs
• Translate and interpret on an as-needed basis

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
• Bilingual endorsement or ELS-TBE (K-9)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and second language determined by student needs

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials
• Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, interpersonal communication skills, articulation, concentration, confidentiality and organization
