Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has opportunities for a School Social Worker Intern for the 25 / 26 school year. The goal of this position is to provide services within the schools that facilitate the growth and development of all students. Responsibilities include providing services to and on behalf of students whose educational and / or psychosocial development is restricted due to social, emotional, and / or behavioral considerations, family circumstances, or environmental problems. Under the guidelines and requirements of the sponsoring university / supervisor and in collaboration with the school district / site supervisor. Interns shall work a minimum of 3 days a week and a maximum of 5 days a week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Consult and collaborate with staff and parents about program development, prevention measures, early interventions, and assessment of students' difficulties
- Serve as a contributing member on building and district level teams (i.e. crisis team, problem-solving / MTSS teams, student services building teams, etc.)
- Complete valid social / emotional assessments, interpret student information for a variety of learning concerns, and communicate in written and verbal formats student needs in understandable terms for staff and parents
- Provide individual counseling and / or group experiences with students to help solve problems or develop functional skills related to the learning environment.
- Maintain current with research findings and practices relevant to the area of social work and education
- In cooperation with other building staff, plan and conduct in-service presentations or newsletters for teachers, parents, administrators, or community groups to enhance understanding of and services for the educational and social / emotional development of children
- Participate in parent education to assist parents in understanding their children's special needs, to provide information on child development, or to address other issues of individual or common parent interest / concern
- Serve as a liaison between the community and school
- Maintain familiarity with legal mandates / laws and ethical standards that influence professional responsibilities
