Job Summary
The Director of Golf is responsible for the operation of all aspects of the golf course operation. This includes the golf shop, golf carts, tournament operation, learning center, and administration. During the winter, the Director of Golf will also oversee Cross Country operations The position promotes an exceptional golf experience and provides excellent services and programs for all members and guests. It is the Director of Golf’s role to drive service standards, associate development and achieve defined financial goals and golf membership growth. This is a senior management position and serves on the Senior Leadership Committee.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver programming that meets nationally recognized standards.
- Prepare annual operating budget and capital budget for approval by executive leadership for golf operations, and then operate to budget/plan.
- Oversee and manage the Head Golf Professional, Golf Operations Manager, and ultimately, the staff members that report up to them.
- Develop and execute Golf marketing and media plans in conjunction with the Director of Sales and Director of Marketing.
- Evaluate people, operation, equipment and revenue opportunities, and provide staff with the training and tools to do the job. Establish golf shop operations personnel policies and ensure proper hiring, training, supervising, personal development and corrective action practices in accordance with fair labor standards, safety and established policy.
- Control costs without sacrificing quality, including achieving optimum staffing ratios with qualified people to minimize overtime and maintain high service standards.
- Prepare timely reports including: sales by product category, pace, profitability, capital projects and guest and member satisfaction. Achieve and strive to exceed goals set for these areas.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and provide feedback on course playability, amenities, teaching facility conditions, tournament set up and customer feedback.
- Partner internally with departments including Retail, Sales, Marketing, Accounting, 4SC Membership, Food & Beverage, Project Management, Mountain Ops and Real Estate.
- Partner externally with local, regional and national organizations, including our regional CVB, America’s Summer Golf Capital, Michigan and national PGA affiliates, the USGA, regional school systems, and media partners.
- Develop and oversee an innovative tournament schedule and golf activities program that services all customer segments.
- Assist Membership Department on the promotion of new member leads and provide a supporting role in assisting with prospective members and orientation of new members. Grow 4SC Golf Member revenues and satisfaction with their membership.
- Offer golf internship programs and attract interns to these programs.
- Develop and oversee golf instruction, clinics, golf schools, and player development programs for all customer segments.
- Is fully knowledgeable about golf shop merchandise; participates in selling merchandise and/or provides suggestions to patrons to help meet their needs.

Competencies:
- Minimum 5 years of proven success managing a highly demand for profit member, public and lodging guest shared golf facility.
- Retail experience is a plus.
- Experience with a diversity of golf course operations: resort, semi-private.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying, and responding to the concerns raised by guests and members.
- Computer skills, e.g. email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
- Proficient with online e-commerce golf booking systems, POS systems, hospitality reservations software and the like.
- Must be flexible and able to handle a multitude of tasks in an ever-changing environment.
- Highly organized and detail oriented, with thorough follow up skills.
- Excellent coaching and leadership development skills.
- A Bachelor’s degree majoring in Golf Management or Business Management.
- A PGA or LPGA member in good standing.
- Ability to work in office environment & outdoors: on course, at events and at the teaching center.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
- The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Evenings, weekends and holidays are a regular part of the schedule.
- Travel required for golf industry events required (i.e. shows, opens, etc.)
