Utilities Technician

Job Summary
The Utilities Technician is responsible for the general operation and maintenance of a
variety of County-owned utility systems, including waste water treatment plants, collection systems and water systems.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation of Resort utility systems including waste water treatment plants, well heads and water distribution systems, STEP tanks, collections systems, drain fields and other systems.
• Perform troubleshooting and general maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, pipes, tools, electrical/mechanical components and a variety of other equipment.
• Inspect utilities related construction projects and makes Pass/Fail decisions concerning construction inspections.
• Collect samples, perform basic laboratory tests and record data.
• May be asked to show the utility operations to officials, engineers, contractors or other visitors to the facility.
• Perform all manual labor tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the utility daily. Operate equipment and tools including mowers, weed eater, chain/circular saws, welder, portable generator, portable pumps, underground locator, multi-meter and any other equipment necessary to the operation of the of the utility.
• Order supplies, such as chlorine, lab supplies and small repair parts, as necessary.
• May respond to emergencies such as broken pipes, equipment failures or other malfunctions requiring immediate attention.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Must have Wastewater Treatment Group I Certification.
• High School Diploma/ GED.
• One year experience as an operator at a wastewater treatment plant.

Physical & Other Requirements:

• Working with heights, safety equipment, use of equipment emitting loud noises, high pressure mechanicals and some hazardous materials
• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
• Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to climb heights up to 40 feet while wearing tools/gear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
• Operate a variety of electrical, manual and gas-powered tools including mowers, weed eaters, chain/circular saws, welders, portable generators, portable pumps, and underground locators.
• Work with electrical wiring and electrical equipment, climb ladders, and occasionally work in confined spaces. Operate motor vehicles including backhoe.
• May be exposed to dust, chemicals, and fumes.
• Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather and temperature extremes.
• Evenings, weekends and holidays are a regular part of the schedule.
• Must have excellent attendance and conduct record for consideration.
• Minimum 18 years old.
• Must have unrestricted and insurable driving record.
