Site Reliability Engineer I - Remote

Your Role

The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning for multiple systems within the insurance applications production environments.

They create a bridge between development and operations by applying a software engineering mindset to system administration topics and splitting their time between operations/on-call duties and developing system monitors, automation, and software that help increase site reliability and performance.

They collaborate closely with product developers to ensure that the crafted solution responds to non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, security, and maintainability. They also work with release engineers to ensure that the software delivery pipeline is as efficient as possible

Your Work (Essential Responsibilities)

• Observe production deployments with the goal of learning.
• Observes - Administer production application containers.
• Observes – Supports core batch processes and ETL integrations across numerous internal & external systems.
• Performs very basic triage of non-complex technical production incidents and performance issues.
• Observe the evaluation & creation of Requests for Change (RFCs), the available resources, the impact of change, and organizational readiness.
• Observes - monitoring, application log analysis, automated alerts, Key Risk Indicator dashboards, system health reports, and automated system recovery.
• Observe the development of pre-emptive monitoring, application log analysis, automated alerts, Key Risk Indicator dashboards, system health reports, and automated system recovery.
• Observes - Monitors applications and develops simple queries and reports/dashboards to proactively identify issues impacting application performance & stability.
• Observe the development of automation in the support of deployment and self-healing capabilities
• Shadows in rotational on-call support for critical applications.
• Observes - Provides subject matter expertise to stakeholders (Business and IT) and reviews documentation of other analysts for completeness
• Observe Agile ceremonies in the representation of technical dept artifacts.
• Observes - Disaster Recovery & Cyber Security exercise at the enterprise level.
• Observe the remediation of vulnerabilities and security findings.
• Observe activities in support of internal and external audits.
  
  

Required Experience, Education And Skills

• High School Diploma
• Basic computer skills and a basic understanding of enterprise systems
• Actively shapes our company culture (e.g., participating in employee resource groups, volunteering, etc.)
• Lives into cultural norms (e.g., willing to have cameras when it matters helping onboard new team members, building relationships, etc.)
• Travels as needed for role, including divisional / team meetings and other in-person meetings
• Fulfills business needs, which may include investing extra time, helping other teams, etc
