Senior Plans Examiner (FT - Hybrid)

Job Summary

Our Building Plan Review Department is currently hiring a Senior Plans Examiner. In this role you will review commercial, residential, and industrial project plans, and have a thorough knowledge of construction in section and plan review protocols, policies, and procedures.

We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.

Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of California Building Standards Codes and Referenced Standards.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, construction diagrams, plans, blueprints and specifications and evaluate them for compliance with governing codes and standards.
• Exhibit sound judgement in providing expert code interpretation.
• Ability to suggest alternate forms of compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Prepare and present effective oral and written reports.
• Represent the department at internal and external meetings.
• Current on legal and technical developments pertaining to building construction and codes.
• Mentor and train plans examiners.
• Perform other related duties as required.
  
  

Qualifications

• 5 to 10 years of industry experience, including 5 years reviewing plans for conformance to model codes.
• BS in Engineering or related field of equivalent work experience is desired.
• Must possess multiple International Code Council (ICC) Certifications, including Certified Building Plans Examiner
• Strong computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively with everyone regardless of level of technical expertise.
• Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
  
  

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must be able to drive to client job sites.
• Must be physically able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
• Work independently or in a team environment.
• On an as needed basis, be able to work from home, or at a client office location is required.
• Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35lbs.
• Regularly requires working in a sitting position with a computer for extended periods.
• Work with detailed, finely printed documents.

The compensation for this position is $46.00 to $62.00 per hour
