Senior Plant Layout Designer
Position Overview:
The Senior Plant Layout Designer is responsible for planning, developing, and reviewing mechanical designs, producing technical drawings and documentation, and preparing project estimates. This role involves coordinating with clients, facilitating technical discussions, and ensuring all designs comply with industry standards and regulations. The designer will also oversee mechanical layouts, manage design teams, and resolve complex technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee mechanical designers and drafters in developing 2D and 3D CAD models, layouts, and construction drawings.
- Collaborate with technical teams and project managers to define project scopes, schedules, and objectives.
- Develop cost estimates, manage project budgets, and allocate resources efficiently.
- Provide input on process flow diagrams and contribute to early-stage facility layouts and equipment arrangements.
- Navigate and review 3D models for interferences and constructability.
- Design complex engineering systems and components for mining, materials handling, and refining facilities.
- Prepare material requisitions, review bid evaluations, and ensure compliance with mechanical design standards.
- Participate in constructability and model reviews, making site visits when necessary to resolve issues.
- Standardise design and drafting procedures to streamline team workflows.
- Assess and approve mechanical design scope changes, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Monitor work progress, prepare reports, and communicate updates to project teams.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, and multi-discipline interface management.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2020 or newer), CADWorx, and/or Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Experience in 3D modelling within a multi-discipline environment.
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment used in mining and metals projects.
- Understanding of engineering and construction materials relevant to mechanical design.
- Knowledge of NI 43-101 and/or SK1300 reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
