About the Position:
The Lead Charge Nurse will lead and oversee our nursing department during the assigned shift. As Lead Charge Nurse, your central goal will be to develop a collaborative and efficient workplace with specific attention to quality client care. You will perform a range of duties including maintain department expenses as set within the departmental budget, assess efficiency and processes of the department and assist the DON in setting long-term goals, and oversee compliance with medical record documentation in the EMR. The ideal candidate for this position has proven experience in behavioral health nursing leadership role, outstanding organizational skills, and in-depth knowledge of best practice behavioral health.
Position Duties and Responsibilities – Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leadership:
- Manage and lead nursing personnel operations during assigned shift.
- Assist the DON to develop short and long-term goals for the nursing department.
- Review medical policies, procedures and plans annually with the DON and Compliance.
- Oversee the medical admission process and nursing/client care processes.
- Coordinate with medical providers and other departments to ensure efficiency in client coordinated care.
- Hire and train new nursing staff members according to APN policies/procedures.
- Evaluate, document, and monitor staff performance as outlined in APN policies.
Daily Operations:
- Oversee medical department expenditures and report monthly to accounting/finance/DON.
- Respond to any medical-related issues in a timely manner.
- Schedule nursing team to ensure coverage, efficiency, and effectiveness with client admission process.
- Be the liaison between the Contact Center and Clinical Admissions team to ensure smooth transition and processes with incoming and existing clients.
- Conduct nursing assessments, medical intake packets (documents), and ensure accuracy with date entry and timeliness.
- Comply with all licensing, accreditation and payer standards as outline in the APN policy and procedure manual.
- Administer medications, lab draws, UDS, IV, PPD, etc as ordered by the practitioner for clients and/or personnel.
- Client care o Educate clients on ordered medications, side effects, contraindications, etc o Monitor clients for adverse reactions, behavioral escalation and/or decline, SI/HI and document accordingly o Skin assessment as needed o Update charting, Practitioner’s orders and MARS o Collaborate with Practitioners on client care, schedule, nursing duties, and communication/documentation for all
- Maintain genuine, caring professionalism and rapport with clients
- Give and receive nursing reports and conduct daily count for narcotics
- Inventory and order supplies
- Update clinical summary daily o Prepare morning staffing meetings, Huddle
- Inventory and order medications for clients
- Maintain organization in file cabinet, binders, and records
- Maintain COVID and Infection Control Log monthly
- Maintain an orderly and organized environment in nurses’ station
- Notify on call Practitioner and/or counselor of any clients in acute distress, major facility issues, or admission requests. Notify DON of any clients in medical/psychiatric distress.

Requirements

Education: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration or a relevant field. And, a current Colorado or Compact RN or LPN/LVN License required.
Experience: This position requires experience in the following areas:
- Prior experience in Addiction and/or Mental Health Nursing preferred.
- 3-5 years of inpatient care experience required.
- Prior Charge Nurse experience required. Prior management experience as a Nursing Supervisor or Nurse Manager strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Certified nursing and CPR qualifications. • Proficiency in MS Word and Outlook.
- Experience in medical/behavioral health EMR applications.
Special Skills & Knowledge:Candidates should have the following skills and attributes: In-depth knowledge of legal policies and regulations in the healthcare industry; aptitude for problem-solving.; excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
