Job Description
The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, timely, and on-budget delivery of moderate civil projects while meeting all quality expectations. This role requires progressive experience in construction management and the effective use of project controls to oversee cost, schedules, and quality. The position involves minimal supervision and offers an opportunity to lead projects, manage contractors, and maintain strong client relationships.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Utilize and ensure adherence to company standards.
- Develop familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria at the onset of a task.
- Oversee and enforce construction safety requirements, with a strong commitment to achieving a zero-accident work environment.
- Manage contractor activities to ensure safety-first planning and execution.
- Collaborate with design leaders to ensure efficient project progress and quality execution of technical and contractual activities across one or more projects.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while promoting continued partnerships.
- Participate in all project phases, including field construction, design services, subcontracting, and key technical, cost, schedule, and performance decisions.
- Proactively recognize and communicate scope and design changes to project leadership.
- Provide on-site support during project startup to ensure successful execution.
- Coordinate with staff members, discipline leads, and contractors to facilitate smooth project flow and timely completion.
- Review and ensure vendor drawings, fabrication drawings, and construction submittals align with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Monitor contractor resource allocations to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Advise senior engineers on scope or design changes as they arise.
- Coordinate activities to minimize lost time due to problem resolution or lack of direction.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Construction Science, Building Science, or a related field from an accredited university is highly preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant Civil Engineering construction management or project-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven ability to lead small teams and deliver project commitments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction management, project execution procedures, and project control tools.
- Familiarity with engineering standards, procurement processes, and construction workflows.
- Strong ability to manage client relationships and address complex project situations effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership, with team orientation and the ability to delegate authority appropriately.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and foster professional development within a team.
- Understanding of customer needs and preferences, with the ability to maintain strong relationships in the business community.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage stress, and clearly communicate expectations to team members.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot or cold climates).
- Capability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment (e.g., fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, earplugs, and hard hat).
