Job Summary:
A CDL Equipment Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles, including but not limited to trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery. This role involves transporting goods, materials, and equipment to various locations, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and maintaining the vehicles in top working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Commercial Vehicles: Safely drive and operate commercial vehicles, including but not limited to tractor-trailers, dump trucks, flatbeds, and other heavy equipment.
- Transport Goods and Materials: Deliver goods (such as steel plates, pipe, materials, and equipment to designated locations promptly and efficiently.
- Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order. Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Load and Unload Cargo: Assist in the loading and unloading cargo, ensuring it is secure and complies with weight limits and safety standards.
- Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation laws and regulations, including service hours, vehicle operation, and safety standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle inspections, and hours of operation. Complete and submit all required documentation promptly.
- Safety: Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients and customers, ensuring their needs are met and any issues are resolved promptly.
Qualifications:
- Valid CDL: Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL A with no restrictions) with appropriate endorsements (Tanker endorsement).
- Experience: Previous experience as a commercial driver or in a related field preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of commercial vehicle operation, safety practices, and federal transportation regulations.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift heavy objects, perform manual labor, and work in various weather conditions.
- Clean Driving Record: Must have a clean driving record with no major violations.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Work Environment:
- Must perform strenuous and physically demanding tasks for long hours, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing 40 to 90 pounds.
- May require overtime as needed
- Must maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and equipment for safe coordination.
- Must operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Must stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl during work tasks.
- Must wear safety boots, safety glasses, hard hats, and applicable safety gear.
