Job Summary:
CST Utilities is seeking a skilled Directional Drill Locator to assist in the safe and efficient installation of underground utilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations and locating underground utilities using electronic tracking equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately locate and track the drill head using electronic locating equipment.
- Assist the drill operator in safely steering the drill path while avoiding existing utilities and obstacles.
- Interpret job prints, maps, and utility locate markings to ensure safe digging.
- Communicate effectively with the drill operator and crew to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
- Perform potholing and verify existing utility locations before and during drilling operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to locating and drilling operations.
- Maintain and care for locating equipment and tools.
- Assist with site preparation, setup, and cleanup.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1 years of experience as a directional drill locator preferred.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with HDD operations, underground utility locating, and reading construction plans.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Certifications: OSHA 10/30 and safety training preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift to 50 lbs, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- License: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required; CDL is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Must be able and willing to conduct strenuous and physically demanding tasks for long hours, work outdoors, and in inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds.
- Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
- Must be able to operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl while performing work.
- Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hard hats, and any applicable safety gear.
