We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Academic Advising community as the Academic Success Advising Specialist, focusing on providing support and relational advising to undergraduate students on Academic Notice and at-risk, funded by Fullerton RISES, Department of Education FIPSE Grant. The individual in this position will play a pivotal role in supporting students' academic journey and providing tailored guidance and resources to help them achieve their educational goals. The Academic Success Advising Specialist will work closely with students to develop and implement strategies that promote academic and holistic success as a CSUF student. Our Academic Advising mission is to work in a collaborative partnership with students, a shared responsibility, where the advisor and student are equally invested in the educational process and holistic development of the student with diverse assets, needs, and backgrounds. Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Advising, Operations and Special Programs, the Academic Success Advising Specialist fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive academically. They serve as a consistent point of contact for their students, develop personalized relationships, and provide holistic advising. They collaborate with their students to identify personal and academic factors contributing to academic difficulty and co-create a success plan based on the students’ individual needs. They facilitate group advising and workshops focused on academic success and promote their student’s involvement in campus events and activities.
The Academic Success Advising Specialist guides students in developing goals and engages in proactive outreach and follow-up to ensure progress. They offer guidance on effective time management, organizational skills, and study strategies. They encourage students to attend supplemental instruction and utilize other academic support services. They are responsible for tracking academic advising activities and retention of their student caseloads and regularly connect with their students using various communication channels.

60% Academic Advising and Academic Success Coaching
• Provide sustained and personalized one-on-one academic advising sessions, in- person and virtual, in support of students’ academic, personal, and professional development.
• Assist students in creating and implementing tailored academic plans, including course selection and academic goal setting.
• Help students in setting SMART goals and proactively follow-up to ensure progress.
• Offer guidance on study skills, time management, and organizational techniques to enhance students' academic performance.
• Introduce students to supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other academic support services, and encourage regular participation.
• Facilitate workshops, seminars, and other educational programs focused on academic success strategies.
• Provide information about university policies, procedures, and regulations to students.
• Monitor progress of students with check-ins, scheduled meetings, email communication, and text messaging, responding to student's questions, concerns, and needs.
• Monitor student progress and retention.
• Review students’ Titan Degree Audit and other academic records to determine degree progress.

15% Outreach and Engagement
• Implement proactive communication campaigns and track outcomes.
• Become familiar with campus resources to effectively refer students based on their individual needs.
• Collaborate with advising and student success teams to provide customized services and help enhance existing support.
• Maintain collaborative working relationships with academic departments, university services, programs, and offices, for the purpose of creating a seamless university advising environment.
15% Data Tracking, Reporting, and Analysis
• Maintain confidential records of students supported and referred.
• Use TitanNet and other data analytic tools to generate reports.
• Collect, compile, and analyze student data in collaboration with other campus and college personnel.
• Generate verbal and/or written presentations with these data.
• Collaborate with other college personnel to develop student success strategies including retention, graduation, and/or equity gap-closing campaigns.
5% Continuing Professional Development and Lifelong Learning
• Cultivate a strong understanding of student development, student support, student success, pinpoint student needs and be able to effectively communicate with students in the rapidly changing communication environment.
• Stay current on best practices in academic advising, student success, and higher education trends.
• Participate in learning activities, particularly in the areas of inclusive and equitable practices.
• Maintain an active understanding of university policies, procedures, and regulations.
5% Other Duties as Assigned
• General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques.
• Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
• Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
• Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
• Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience advising students in a higher education setting.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience working with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and community population.
• Previous experience working with students on academic notice or at-risk or academic notice.
• Experience working with Hispanic/other underserved students and families.
• Strong understanding of academic advising principles and knowledge of university policies and procedures.
• Ability to collaborate with campus partners, faculty, and staff.
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Minimum Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferred.
