CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on the Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other CSU departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

JBER is a 73,000-acre United Stated (U.S.) military installation located near Anchorage, Alaska. In 2010, JBER was created when Elmendorf Air Force Base and the U.S. Army’s Fort Richardson were merged. The U.S. Air Force mission of JBER is to support and defend U.S. interests in the Pacific and around the world. The JBER natural resources team is responsible for managing over 57,000 acres of undeveloped land, including forests and wetlands that serve as essential habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal species, including wolves, bald eagles, black and brown bears, and many others. The natural resources team also works with the military member, civilian employees, and the public to provide many unique outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, woodcutting, and hiking.
