Position Summary
This position performs pipefitter duties including design, layout, fabricate, cut, thread, assemble, repair, inspect and install the main water mains for the university irrigation utility system. The irrigation system consists of four industrial water pumping systems, four industrial filtration systems, 36 pressure reducing valve vaults (PRVs), a central control computer, four filter controllers, pump stations controllers, 25 IP controllers, 110 slave controllers, alarms, and various piping materials, plumbing fixtures and components.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application materials:

Three years’ experience fabricating, assembling, repairing, and installing underground water main pipes and associated components and equipment.
OR
Education And Experience
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience fabricating, assembling, repairing, and installing underground water main pipes and associated components and equipment in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years.

- Knowledge of pipefitting for an industrial irrigation utility system.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics as it relates to irrigation.
- Experience and training of industrial pumping systems and valves.
- Electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience of activated oxygen systems and related components.
- Experience and working knowledge of industrial filtration systems.
- Experience with central control system MOSCAD.
- Experience with VFDs.
- Ability to perform snow removal.
Job Duty Category Pipe Fitter Duty/Responsibility
- Plans, layouts, fabricates, assembles, repairs, inspects and installs all underground water main pipe systems mostly comprised of steel with some asbestos-concrete (AC), galvanized, PVC and poly pipe.
- Repair, bend, cut, thread, weld, join, and connect pipe to irrigation components.
- Reconstructs 36 underground 2” trough 4” pressure reducing vaults (PRV’s), pump stations, and filter stations.
- Install, inspect, lubricate, clean, replace, repair, calibrate, monitor, and test pump stations that include two 8” centrifugal split case pumps.
- Install, monitor and test electric butterfly valves, VFDs, relief valves, flow switch, flow sensors, temperature sensors, alarm sensors, bearings, impellers, couplers, and various components and fixtures.
- Performs campus snow removal duties such as plowing, shovel, etc. according to university and departmental standards
- Performs other duties as assigned by scheduling and prioritizing work; responding to complaints/questions/problems related to the irrigation utility system.
