The Peersen lab is seeking a research assistant for a part-time (20 hrs/week) short term summer position. This individual will work on a project studying viral protease specificity. The position requires familiarity with biochemical protease activity assays, running SDS-PAGE gels and the quantitative image analysis thereof, and analyzing and curve fitting the resulting data using Excel and Kaleidagraph software. Previous experience is a plus.

Position Minimum Qualifications
- Biological and Biochemical experience.
- Experience with biochemical protease activity assays.
- Hands-on experience running SDS-PAGE gels.
- Knowledge of analyzing and curve fitting data using Excel and Kaleidagraph software.
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff, postdocs, students, administration, and the public with tact, discretion, and appropriate judgment.
- Ability to organize time and work effectively to keep lab operations running smoothly, recognizing that this is a difficult skill to learn and will likely involve troubleshooting and feedback.
- Ability to keep accurate lab notebooks.
- Good organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Punctuality, dependability, and consistency.
- Willingness to learn and grow, admit mistakes, and ask for help when you need it.
