Position Summary

Bring Healing to Light — Join Us as a Veterinary Radiation Oncologist!

Are you passionate about cutting-edge cancer care and making a meaningful impact in the lives of pets and their people? Our multidisciplinary team is seeking a veterinary radiation oncologist who’s ready to collaborate, innovate, and deliver compassionate treatment using advanced radiation technology. Step into a role where your expertise shines—and so do the outcomes.

The successful candidate should have a strong interest in the diagnosis, medical and radiation therapy treatment of complex cancer conditions in primarily dogs, cats, and exotics. The successful candidate is expected to provide superior patient care by utilizing CSU’s cutting-edge advanced imaging, radiation therapy equipment, and diagnostic technologies while collaborating with numerous other specialty services. Clinical duties will consist of supervision of patient & client care for patients presented to the oncology service as well as the radiation oncology service specifically. Duties of the successful candidate will include teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents. Participation in weekly didactic resident training including journal clubs, and daily student case rounds will be encouraged. The faculty of the Radiation Oncology Service DO NOT provide support for after-hours emergencies; however, the successful candidate will be expected to provide after-hours support for radiation oncology house officers. Please note this position is for .25 FTE.

Successful candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • American College of Veterinary Radiology Radiation Therapy (ACVR-RO) board certification
  • Eligibility to obtain a State of Colorado Veterinary License (either Academic or full license)

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated history of excellence in clinical work
  • Demonstrated collaboration in a multi-specialty hospital setting
  • Experience and comfort with instruction of veterinary students, interns, and residents

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Radiation Planning and Treatment Procedures Duty/Responsibility

  • Develop and implement radiation treatment plans, ensuring accuracy and efficacy.
  • Supervise and perform radiation therapy procedures, including treatment delivery and quality assurance measures.
  • Work closely with radiation therapists, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to optimize patient treatment.
  • Maintain compliance with radiation safety protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize advanced imaging modalities and treatment technologies to enhance precision and effectiveness.

Percentage Of Time 50% Job Duty Category Consultation Oversight and Medical Management Duty/Responsibility

  • Evaluate radiation oncology cases through patient history, clinical presentation, and diagnostic results.
  • Develop differential diagnoses and formulate individualized treatment plans, including medical and/or radiation therapy options.
  • Communicate treatment recommendations to clients, referring veterinarians, and the medical team.
  • Provide guidance on palliative and curative treatment approaches based on patient needs and prognosis.

Percentage Of Time 20% Job Duty Category Case Management with Co-Morbidities and Post-Treatment Complications Duty/Responsibility

  • Oversee the management of patients with multiple co-morbidities, ensuring a comprehensive approach to treatment.
  • Monitor for and address potential post-treatment complications, including radiation side effects and systemic health concerns.
  • Collaborate with other specialty services to ensure coordinated and optimized patient care.
  • Provide ongoing case follow-up, adjusting treatment plans as needed to improve patient outcomes.

Percentage Of Time 20% Job Duty Category Clinical Teaching of Students, Interns, and Residents Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide hands-on clinical instruction to veterinary students, interns, and residents in radiation oncology.
  • Guide trainees through case evaluations, treatment planning, and procedural execution.
  • Deliver lectures, case discussions, and rounds to support learning and professional development.
  • Mentor trainees in clinical decision-making, patient management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
