Job Summary:
The Per Diem Maintenance Employee is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors within the CT Behavioral Health Hospital. This role involves responding to work orders, conducting preventive maintenance, and assisting with facility operations on an as-needed basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general repairs and maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC systems.
- Address routine maintenance issues and emergency repairs in patient rooms, common areas, and administrative offices.
- Conduct regular inspections of hospital facilities to identify and resolve maintenance concerns.
- Assist in maintaining hospital grounds, including snow removal, landscaping, and minor exterior repairs.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, infection control protocols, and hospital policies.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders while prioritizing urgent repairs.
- Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and handling basic equipment installations.
- Support preventive maintenance programs for electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Maintain proper documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Work collaboratively with the housekeeping, nursing, and administrative teams to address maintenance-related concerns impacting patient care and safety.
- Operate hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Follow all OSHA guidelines, fire safety procedures, and hazardous material handling protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with safety procedures, infection control standards, and building codes.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with hospital staff and patients professionally.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, walk, bend, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work per diem shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a hospital or behavioral health facility.
- Knowledge of infection control and healthcare safety standards.
- Certification or vocational training in maintenance-related fields is a plus.
