CT Composites, Inc., located in South Windsor, CT, has been servicing consumers, commercial clients, manufactures and municipalities for 35 years. Known for strong customer service and high-quality repair, CT Composites is seeking a full-time experienced fiberglass technician for its expanded fiberglass manufacturing and repair department.
Duties:
- Perform repairs and maintenance on marine and commercial/industrial products. Type of repairs include but are not limited to fiberglass repair and fabrication, gelcoat repair, wood structural repair, carpeting, assembly, and painting.
- Work as a team or individually on various aspects of manufacturing projects.
- Continually update job knowledge by participating in both hands on and classroom training opportunities.
Position Descriptions:
- Mold and Plug fabricating and repair: For this position, you will need to be able to read drawings and build the plugs and molds out of various materials with wood being the most common. Accuracy and attention to detail are required. Carpentry type skills lend well for this position.
- Gelcoat applicator: In this position, the technician will apply gelcoat using specific spray equipment and techniques. They must help maintain the equipment and prepare and monitor mold surfaces for issues or defects. People with past painting or finishing experience lend well to this position.
- Open molding laminators: Technicians apply both resin and fiberglass to molds with “hand layup” and using special equipment. The techs generally work in teams apply the resin/glass and rolling the surfaces to remove air bubbles between the layers of glass. Additional steps of wet and dry trimming also take place. People that like to use their hands and create items enjoy this process.
- Closed molding technicians: Similar to open molding where the technicians create parts using fiberglass and resin but, in this process, they work with the materials dry then use vacuum to draw the resins through the parts to create the same detailed part repeatedly. This process is typically used in higher production runs. This process is more systematic and requires someone that can follow the instructions and be concise.
- Trimmer: Once most of the parts are completed, they typically must be trimmed and finished. Technicians use specialized tools, templates, and jigs to cut the parts accurately to size. Many times, they also require some sanding and finishing of the surfaces.
- Finish and assembly: In this area, the technician will put the final finishes on the parts. This could include buffing and sanding, and some may require hardware, gaskets, or decals to be installed. This is the last step prior to the customer receiving their order. Attention to detail and accuracy is important.
- Painting and finishing: Many products need to be assembled then the surfaces finished to allow for painting. This position requires a technician with strong finishing and application skills.
Applicant requirements:
- Have personal hand and auto body tools or willing to purchase as needed
- Able to work well with your hands
- Has good eye/hand coordination and be physically fit to lift, bend and be able to work in various positions
- Auto body repair/fiberglass experience preferred but other types of experience will be considered.
