What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Finance Assistant (Hartford) position at CT TRANSIT?
Support the Department in maintaining the general ledger, assisting with payroll functions, money room operations, and supporting the finance systems applications as assigned.1. Supports Finance Department heads in performing the Accounts Payable and Receivable process Inclusive of data entry, mailing checks, filing paid and unpaid vouchers, report creation and/or running providing a clear picture at all times of company’s payable position, and providing vendor reconcilements as assigned.
2. Assist the Department Head by coordinating the distribution and reconcilement of pre-paid fare media to all internal departments throughout the CTtransit network and to external parties consistent with the General Function of the role’s scope.
3. Performing other accounting or administrative functions as assigned by the Department Heads in such areas as routine bookkeeping, preparation of accounting records and general payroll.
4. Assists the Finance Department Heads with responding to requests for ad-hoc, weekly, monthly, and year-end reporting as needed.
5. Assist the Finance Department heads by performing payroll functions and accrual balance tracking for the assigned division consistent with all applicable agency rules and requirements as directed by the language in issued policy, contracts, and Memos of Understanding (MOUs) as needed.
6. Responds to internal and external inquiries for information relative to position scope as directed by the CTTRANSIT is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer Department heads.
7. Assists in the performing of basic money counting functions as required; empties revenue mobile bins, operates money room machines and assists in the preparation of daily deposits.
8. Executes scope utilizing a thorough appreciation and application of Agency policies and procedures as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
9. Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, etc.
10. Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.

2. An equivalent combination of education and highly relative work experience on a year for year basis may be substituted for the 2-year degree requirement.
3. Solid understanding of payroll processes with excellent math, analytical, customer service, and surpassing written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
4. The employee must be able to undergo a satisfactory security and credit check review throughout employment necessary for bonding of employees and/or consistent with standards for employees who handle cash.
5. Ability to learn procedures and policies and complex tracking systems and accompanying software that require a high degree of accuracy, responsibility, along with an ability to prioritize and execute with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency both in a team environment and while working independently are essential.
6. Proficient in MS Office 365 suite programs (emphasis on Excel), all relevant office equipment and the ability to quickly learn internal software programs.
7. Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion, sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact with employees at all levels throughout CTtransit, and external stakeholders as directed by the Department Lead.
8. Physical ability to lift and carry coin bags and other items weighing up to 50 lbs. and to operate moneyroom equipment.
