Job Description:
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting Director of Natural Resources with the management of the Tribal Department of Natural Resources and Culture. This position oversees daily operations, assists the Director in developing, and carrying out plans, programs, budgets, polices, procedures, and grant related applications and reports.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Director in the development of policies and implement administrative rules, procedures, and program priorities consistent with Tribal values and policy established by the Chief Executive Officer and Tribal Council.
- Assist Director in researching funding to enhance, maintain and protect the Tribes natural resources and to ensure efficient and effective provision of services to the Tribal Membership.
- Manage day-to-day supervision of Natural Resources and Cultural Department employees.
- Aid in tracking departmental budgets and grant plans and outcomes.
- Assist Director in the preparation of technical reports; develop plans and to be presented to various entities as appropriate.
- Review of reports, statistical data and/or conferences with reporting staff; resolves conflicts between reporting staff on areas of shared responsibility.
- Coordinate activities with other departments and agencies in areas of mutual concern in order to ensure compliance with established policies, objectives, program priorities and applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
- Must be able to interact with Tribal members, co-workers, colleagues, and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Maintain a good attendance record.
- Other duties as directed by the department Director and management.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to work well with Tribal Council, General Council, Tribal Government staff, other agency staff, and the general public.
- Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS
- Directly supervises employees in the Natural Resources Department which includes but is not limited to, assigning work, and reviewing the performance of such employees performing diverse activities.
- Assists Director in the supervision of functions by interviewing, recommending the selection, and providing training for new staff; by approving or disapproving recommendations from subordinate staff on personnel actions; by evaluating subordinates' performance; by hearing and resolving employee grievances; and by determining the need for and recommending the initiation of disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for the department.
- Assists Director in the administration of department programs and evaluates the quality of services provided.
