What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory P.E. position at CTL Group?

This individual will report to the Group Director, Mortar, Concrete & Petrography Laboratories.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understands and is capable of interpreting testing results produced from Mortar & Concrete Laboratories;
  • Approve outgoing reports for Mortar & Concrete Laboratories;
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes to testing standards to ensure compliance;
  • Make adjustments to department templates and testing equipment as needed, subject to the approval of the Group Director;
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure staff trainings, competency files and aligning documentation are current and complete;
  • Ensure that equipment calibration is current, equipment maintenance needs are reported to Group Director and Quality Assurance department, equipment maintenance is scheduled, or new equipment Purchase Order is entered through the system, and schedule calibrations with external agencies;
  • Maintains detailed and accurate department records to align with all system and equipment needs and outputs;
  • Work with Quality Assurance to gather and distribute necessary documentation for internal audits;
  • Assist with preliminary approvals of CCRL and AASHTO results prior to submission;
  • Serve as Project Manager and primary client contact for projects;
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Technicians and Group Director to ensure business needs are being met.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Preferred 3-6 years of relevant experience in a similar role;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field;
  • P.E. licensed;
  • Experience with ASTM procedures and protocols for the testing of cements and other cementitious materials;
  • Familiarity with standards and regulations (ISO 17025, NQA-1 and ISO 9001);
  • Proven history of working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and materials scientists;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.


Physical Requirements:

  • Office work may require sitting and use computer for prolonged periods of time;
  • Some work is performed in a laboratory environment or in the field where the following conditions may apply: exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity and fumes from various types of equipment;
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and to occasionally push/pull up to 100 pounds;
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary;
  • May require working additional hours;
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.

Salary : $64,600 - $81,900
