Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Petrographer to analyze and classify rocks, minerals, and construction materials using microscopic, chemical, and physical methods. The ideal candidate will have expertise in thin-section petrography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate geological samples for research, quality control, and industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thin-section petrography to study rock and mineral composition and texture.
Perform microscopic and chemical analysis using techniques like XRD, SEM, and EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy).
Classify and interpret rock formations, concrete, cement, and aggregates for construction, mining, and environmental applications.
Prepare detailed petrographic reports and recommendations based on findings.
Work with geologists, engineers, and material scientists to assess material durability and performance.
Identify potential issues such as alkali-silica reaction (ASR) in concrete and suggest mitigation measures.
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper sample preparation.
Stay updated with advancements in petrography, mineralogy, and material science.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Material Science, or a related field.
Experience with optical microscopy, polarized light microscopy (PLM), and petrographic analysis.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as XRD, SEM, and EDS is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to write clear, detailed, and technical reports.
Familiarity with construction materials, cement, aggregates, and durability assessment is advantageous.
Experience in research, quality control, or industrial petrography is preferred.
Preferred Experience:
2 years of experience in petrography or a related field.
Experience working in construction materials, mining, or research laboratories.
