Electrical Design Engineer

Description
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing and creating electrical systems schematics, wiring diagrams, and component layouts. This role involves collaborating with engineers and technical teams to develop and document electrical systems that meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The position requires proficiency in Auto Desk 3D design software and a strong understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, communication systems, and vehicle control units.
Essential Functions
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
- Create detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for off-road vehicles, ensuring that all components function properly within the vehicle's electrical system.
- Design layouts for the routing of wires, connectors, and electrical components, ensuring accessibility, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
- Incorporate feedback from engineers to modify and improve designs for optimal performance and manufacturability.
- Work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other team members to understand design requirements and translate them into functional electrical drafts.
- Communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between electrical designs and other vehicle subsystems (e.g., mechanical, powertrain).
- Maintain accurate records of all electrical designs, modifications, and revisions.
- Ensure that all electrical systems are designed in compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and industry standards.
- Prepare and update technical documentation for manufacturing and assembly teams, including wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, and electrical component specifications.
- Assist in testing and installing electrical systems on prototype vehicles to ensure they function correctly.
- Work with the testing team to identify and resolve any electrical issues, and update designs based on test results.
- Provide troubleshooting support for electrical system issues during vehicle development or after production.
- Stay up to date with new electrical technologies and off-road vehicle trends to improve electrical system design.
- Recommend and implement design improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability of electrical systems.
Minimum Essential Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in designing electrical systems, preferably within the automotive or off-road vehicle industries.
Preferred Skills Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good understanding of vibrator operation and trouble shooting
- Ability to acquire and interpret Vibrator QC data
- Working knowledge of Pelton and INOVA vibrator controllers
- Working knowledge of Auto Desk 3D design software
- Ability to read, interpret and understand vehicle electrical schematics
- Ability to draw electrical schematics and BOM’s in Autodesk 3D design software
- Ability to use Autodesk INVENTOR and VAULT software for 3D design work
- Understanding of off-road vehicle electrical systems, including power distribution, wiring, lighting, sensors, and control systems.
- High level of accuracy in creating electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Ability to identify issues and propose effective solutions in electrical system design.
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
