Job Summary:
Cubico Sustainable investments is growing the USA development team and looking to hire a Development Director.
As Development Director you will manage a portfolio of renewable energy development projects, while working closely with the broader Cubico business both within USA and the Group Functions.
Principal responsibilities include to identify, project manage and progress a portfolio of renewable development projects, including managing third party co-development partners as required.
The Development Director will play a key role in delivering the development business plan for the USA, meeting growth targets and project milestones as Cubico’s USA portfolio increases.
The role will involve some travel to visit and meet with project stakeholders and partners, along with visits to current and prospective development sites.
This position will work from our Austin, Tx head office (hybrid) or Chicago (remote).

Key responsibilities:
- Project managing multiple technologies (Wind, Solar, BESS) in all development stages of the USA portfolio (from securing land to environmental studies to permitting to securing grid and offtake and reaching financial close)
- Building the portfolio by identifying new greenfield sites and opportunities to acquire project or partner with developers to access their pipeline
- Must be able to develop proposals and plans for renewable projects. This includes designing and outlining the project scope, budget and delivery plan
- Identify, initiate, and track interconnection processes for specified regions with transmission team
- Develop and coordinate strategies to receive local, state, and federal project permits
- Establish and maintain supportive relationships with both internal and external partners, ensuring that project specific procurement contracts are negotiated and secured
- Working with internal and external engineering and technical teams to ensure the optimal solution (in terms of LCOE) is incorporated into all projects e.g. site layouts, technology choice, design requirements etc
- Ensure project-specific financial assessments capture all corresponding development, permitting and operational cost assumptions to support accurate financial modelling.
- Developing, managing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including co-developers and development partners)
- Actively monitoring the market for new opportunities e.g. in other technologies
Person specification:
- Proven experience of developing renewable energy projects in the USA (ideally both PV and wind) from site identification to permitting to achieving financial close
- Experience in acquisition processes for assets in development (ideally both PV and wind)
- Project Management skills and experience in using project management controls (budgets, schedules, risk logs etc). Ideally a project management qualification/ certification
- Knowledge of the USA renewable market and renewables regulation
- Strong network of relationships with other developers to find project and partnership opportunities
- Network and relationship with industry stakeholders such as the grid operator and local authorities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and external counterparties across all levels and across diverse cultures
- Strong commercial acumen/track record
- Solid planning and organising skills to include effective prioritisation, resource management and working remotely
- Ability to work under pressure and to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines
- Proactive and enthusiastic, with a positive attitude and a drive for high standards
