Position: Meter Reader

General Description
This is semi‐skilled work in the reading of gas meters on prescribed routes. Work involves recording of meter readings on prescribed basis. Additionally, the Meter Reader performs routine reporting of corrosion, maintenance to meters, and service lines. This position works under the general direction of Gas Operations Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS: Meter Reader
1. Must have a valid Florida driver's license and be capable of driving automotive type
equipment.
2. Must be capable, able, and willing to furnish own transportation on a "per mileage" driven
reimbursement basis.
3. Must be able to write and print legibly.
4. Must be able to read at normal comprehensive level.
5. Must have keen sense of smell and adequate hearing.
6. Must be willing to obtain certification to render first aid, artificial resuscitation, etc.
7. Must be in good physical condition and capable of performing job requirements.
8. Must be able to read street maps and travel to dispatched locations.
9. Must be capable of performing mathematical calculations required to do the job.
10. Must possess tact and ability to communicate clearly with general public.
11. Must be capable of utilizing telephone.
12. Must have suitable personality for customer contact.
13. Must be capable of being trained in using all types of equipment and instruments
associated with performance of duties.
14. Must be able to make clear and legible drawings and/or written records of work operations.
15. Must be capable of being trained to recognize and distinguish various size pipe, materials
and fittings used in distribution system.
16. Must be able to pass the training requirements outlined in the Training Grid associated with
this position.
Work Experience Requirements
- You have a high school diploma or equivalent
- You have a valid Florida Driver’s License
- You possess excellent internal and external communication skills
