DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of an assigned administrator, the Associate Director, Rodeo and Ranch Operations will provide leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and management of the rodeo, ranch education, and related programs. The Associate Director will be responsible for planning and organizing a community college intercollegiate rodeo program, managing related budgets, and following the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the District, Athletic Department, California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). The Associate Director will also be responsible for sustaining the development of instructional programs in agriculture and ranch education by managing budgets and facilities needs and coordinating with the local agriculture community.

The Associate Director, Rodeo and Ranch Operations is distinguished from other positions with the requirement for expertise and knowledge of planning, organizing, implementing and managing the operations and activities related to the program activities.
This position promotes student learning and institutional effectiveness by implementing programs that provide general and special populations access to educational opportunities, and ensuring academic and support services are delivered and documented across the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Rodeo Program –
- Provide direction for all facets of a successful rodeo program;
- Select, supervise, and evaluate coaches, assistant coaches, and support staff;
- Plan, coordinate, recruit, promote/market, and implement the intercollegiate rodeo program;
- Coordinate and plan rodeo advisory committee meetings;
- Participate and develop recruitment materials and activities, including coordinating high school visitations;
- Initiate and manage student eligibility procedures with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association to facilitate student competition;
- Plan, coordinate, and implement annual rodeo events including the travel and accommodations associated with student participation in rodeo events;
- Travel to and attend rodeo competitions in a supervisory capacity;
- In collaboration with the Cuesta College Foundation and Athletics Department, plan and coordinate fund raising activities that support the rodeo program;
Ranch Operations –
- Provide expertise for the planning, implementation, and cost for educational programming in collaboration with program faculty;
- Coordinate with other college administrators to develop programs and offerings in various categories: credit, noncredit, and not-for-credit/fee-based (community programs);
- Support program faculty in the development of new curriculum;
- Identify equipment/facilities needs that will advance instructional programs, and recommend/prioritize requests through the college’s resource allocation processes;
- Serve as the point-of-contact for instructors and collaborators transporting livestock and equipment to and from college facilities, including following college policies to ensure safe transport and storage;
- Coordinate with Division Chairs and Deans to recommend faculty positions that will support program growth, and participate on hiring committees, as needed;
General –
- Oversee and ensure the provision of safe facilities and equipment for all student activities (co-curricular and instructional);
- Manage, oversee, prepare and maintain an annual budget, club funds, and support the acquisition and management of grant and donor funding;
- Recruit, train, hire, and supervise employees; motivate and evaluate assigned personnel; work with employees on performance issues; initiate disciplinary actions when needed;
- Develop and foster collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff; and
- Develop and foster supportive relationships in the community that promote the college programs; and
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or closely related field;
Experience:
Required
- Two years’ experience in a leadership or coaching role in intercollegiate rodeo programs
Knowledge of:
- Regulations and guidelines for area of supervision;
- Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities;
- Building and maintaining relationships with community organizations;
- Knowledge of rodeo, agriculture business, animal science, and animal welfare;
- Handling and managing livestock (horses, cattle, goats), including livestock health care;
- Operating livestock transport vehicles (trucks and trailers);
- Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
- Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
- District policies and procedures.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Physical ability to:
- Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
- Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Ability to work in agricultural setting, including moderate to heavy physical effort; and
- Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

- Salary Schedule Range: $8,103 - $9,849 per month.
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $8,103 - $8,934 per month.
