Selected applicants will be interviewed to establish a pool of approved instructors to teach in the Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Vocational (LVN), and Registered Nursing (RN) programs for part-time assignments during the year for long-term care, medical-surgical, maternal/child/pediatric (theory and clinical courses), psychiatric (theory and clinical courses), skills lab, and long-term care and acute care clinical assignments in the Nursing and Allied Health Division. 

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the CNA/LVN Discipline, the RN (clinical/lab) Discipline, or the RN (theory) Discipline (see below). Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to begin the California BRN approval process through the BRN's EDP-P-10 form. 

Opportunities may include day, evening, and weekend teaching assignments Monday through Saturday at the San Luis Obispo, North County Campuses, and at clinical sites throughout San Luis Obispo County.

The main campus is located along scenic Highway 1, west of San Luis Obispo and east of the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. Cuesta College has a North County Campus in Paso Robles, and South County Center, in Arroyo Grande.

To be considered for the CNA or LVN discipline: 

Required: 

-Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of work experience in a nursing field;

OR 

-Associate's degree from an accredited institution and six years of work experience in a nursing field;

OR

-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website.)

OR

-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).  

LVN Applicants may also be required to meet employment standards set by Title 16: § 2529 Faculty Qualifications (Schools of Vocational Nursing) sections 3-4 prior to being offered an assignment.


CNA Applicants may also be required to meet employment standards set by Title 22: § 71829 Director of Staff Development or Instructor Section D 1-2 prior to being offered an assignment.



To be considered for the RN discipline (Clinical/Lab courses): 

Required: 

-Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of work experience in a nursing field;

OR 

-Associate's degree from an accredited institution and six years of work experience in a nursing field;

OR

-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website.)

OR

-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).  


RN Applicants may also be required to meet employment standards set by Title 16: § 1425 Faculty Qualifications and Changes Sections D or E prior to being offered an assignment. 


To be considered for the RN discipline (Theory courses/Content Expert): 

Required: 

-Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution;

OR

-Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution AND master’s degree in health education or health science from an accredited institution;

OR

-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website.)

OR

-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued);

OR 

-The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing (1-3 listed below):

(1) A master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration;

(2) Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by:

(A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area;

OR

(B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; and

(3) Completion of at least one (1) year’s experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.


Applicants who desire a teaching assignment in maternal/child/pediatric (theory and clinical courses) or psychiatric (theory and clinical courses) may also be required to meet employment standards set by Title 16: § 1425. Faculty Qualifications and Changes Sections F prior to being offered an assignment. 


Also Required: 

-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable:

-Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;

-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
