Job Description Summary

Selected applicants will be interviewed to establish a pool of approved Earth Science instructors for possible part-time teaching assignments in the Earth, Engineering and Physical Sciences Division. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for Earth Science (see the additional information section). Course assignments may be in Geology and/or Oceanography.

Assignments may be day, evening, or weekend classes at the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus, other sites within San Luis Obispo County, or distance education.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

To be considered for the Earth Science discipline:
Required:
  • Master's in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology from an accredited institution;
OR

  • Bachelor's in geology from an accredited institution AND Master's in geography, physics, or geochemistry from an accredited institution;
OR

  • The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.)
OR

  • A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
Also Required:
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable:
  • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
  • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
