What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager in Training (MIT) position at Culture Cannabis Club?
HIRING LOCATION - Indio, CA
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Manager-in-Training (MIT)
Role Overview
The Manager-In-Training (MIT) is a well-respected position within the company. The MIT is a jack of all trades, and is able to shift gears quickly when they are called upon. Before advancing to become an Assistant Manager, the MIT needs to be able to demonstrate the roles and responsibilities of a receptionist, sales lead, cannabis consultant, delivery consultant, and an inventory controller while role modeling customer service excellence in each role.
MIT inspires others to take action, has a huge impact on the overall performance of the team, and is a leadership presence on the floor. The reason why they play such a critical role is because they serve as an extra set of eyes and ears on the ground. When they see a coaching opportunity, they are expected to lean into their soft skills to guide the member in the right direction. If they see members making customers happier than when they first walked in, they recognize their team members. If they see a new guest at Culture, they do everything they can to show them an experience unlike any other. Most importantly, they encourage all members to drive sales to boost basket sizes, and actively promote products on the sales floor.
The MIT position is the golden ticket into management, and they can use this opportunity to advance their careers within Culture if they take disciplined ownership in their own development. In addition, they will level up by spending the time with other managers to broaden their professional network and gain more insight about what it’s like to manage a dispensary. Furthermore, they will also be able to showcase their capability in the presence of others by suggesting ideas and strategies that contribute to the profitability of Culture.
This role is a succession plan towards becoming an Assistant Manager. They perform all the duties that an Assistant Manager would, with the exception of opening or closing the store. Every once in a while, an MIT will be allowed to open and/or close the store if the General Manager or Assistant Manager have an
emergency situations arise, a sudden onset illness, or vacation requests. However, MITs should not be scheduled to open/close on a normal given day. It should also be avoided to have them open/close consecutively as well because this responsibility belongs to the ASM/GM.
Finally, MITs play a supportive role, floating around from position to position within the store going to where they are needed the most. Because of their fluidity, MITs earn a seat at the table and have a voice in the room with all the managers because of how influential they are. Their ability to step into a role and perform at a high level at any given moment means there is leadership presence on the floor at all times, and this alleviates the GM and ASM to fulfill their other responsibilities at the store without having to worry about falling behind on their goals. The greatest incentive for an MIT is how close they are to the work, which builds trust with other members of the team. This also deepens their understanding of each position. Team members respect leaders who understand what they are going through, because the MITs themselves have been through it, and this works heavily in the MITs favor.
