Our client is seeking an Import & Export Manager to join their team!
- Role Title: Import & Export Manager
- Role Duration: Direct Hire
- Role Location: Fremont Area, CA (Hybrid)
- Role Work Schedule: Mon - Fri
- Role Target Start Date: 2 weeks upon offer
- Travel: 10% Travel required
Summary: This position will have to understand and/or be proficient to learn the import and exports compliance laws and regulations of different countries such as EMEA, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and the Oceania as well as United States. The Import and Export Manager will assist in creating, developing and or auditing the company processes and make recommendations as laws and regulations change by either corporate and/or the local, domestic and international governments. This individual will also work closely with Logistics in the selections of Carrier/Forwarder for product shipments, creating and negotiating potential contractual relationships on a Global scale that fulfills the growing demands and oversees the entire process of importing and exporting goods across international borders, ensuring compliance with trade laws and regulations, managing logistics, coordinating with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and guaranteeing timely delivery while navigating customs procedures and potential issues that may arise during international shipments; essentially acting as the primary point of contact for all aspects of a company's international trade activities.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret US Customs, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and other Government Agency rules and regulations.
- Implement, update and monitor these rules where applicable to our business processes.
- Ensure legal compliance and provide import/export administration controls within the applicable rules to include any licensing.
- Determine if licensing is required with various governmental authorizing agencies including Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Census Bureaus, State and Treasury HTS classifications.
- Interacts and collaborates across the organization including but not limited to Sales, Regulatory, Logistics, and Engineering.
- Provide and ensure for accurate information to freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other service providers regarding taxes with international countries based on regulations as well as trade tariffs.
- Handle all issues related to US Customs Regulations.
- Provide ECCN (Export Control Classification Number), USHTS (US Harmonized Tariff Schedule) Schedule B Export Codes.
- Review, analyze and evaluate export transactions (contracts, agreements, and orders) accordingly and make recommendations as necessary to management.
- Maintain compliant export files to support licensing, customer, and transaction screening and classification determinations. Collect appropriate documentation for historical record keeping.
- Conducts periodic departmental training and auditing for import/export compliance with various internal departments (Engineering, Senior Sales Managers, Sales/Order Administration, Customer Service, Logistics, Shipping and HR). Provides import/export compliance material and training for new hires.
- Communicate, coordinate and train personnel on Boycott and Embargo regulations / requirements.
- Conducts site audits for both export and import compliance.
- Understand our business objectives and the relationship between the Department and those objectives; to support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements, to maintain the services and quality levels set by company, and to continually enable to be a great place to work.
- Understand, follow and support internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).
Qualifications & Requirements:
- BS/BA degree in business with specialization in Supply Chain and Logistics with at least
- five (5) years of demonstrated work experience applying import/export regulations.
- Minimum of one (1) year of management experience in the medical device industry is required.
- A minimum of one (1) year leadership experience, including managing both exempt and non-exempt staff is required.
- Certification or license in the field of Import and Export Compliance.
- The Import and Export Manager is an individual contributor role.
- Attention to details and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees within the company, as well as with US Government officials as required.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and export codes, (example: schedule B), taxes and tariffs.
- Ability to clearly express oneself verbally and in writing effectively with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
- Excellent customer focus with a high sense of urgency.
- Ability to provide excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to positively manage situations of a dynamic nature; to modify plans, actions, and decisions in light of changing situations and circumstances while still meeting, or proposing modified, deadlines.
- Experience with domestic and international 3PL for product and distribution strategies.
- Strong ability to conduct a comprehensive analysis prior to making a decision. Erroneous decisions have the potential to impact achievement of business objectives.

Salary : $118,000 - $136,000
