What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Risk Management position at Culver Franchising System, LLC?
Culver Franchising System, LLC is looking for a Director of Risk Management to own and advance risk management strategies and practices for the organization and across the Culver’s system. This person is accountable to identify, evaluate and mitigate risk-related matters that may impact the business, our team members and/or our guests of the Culver’s brand.
Essential Functions:
Procure annual insurance policies for business insurance coverage – includes workers’ compensation, general liability insurance, property & business interruption, auto, flood, umbrella, excess umbrella (property & casualty lines) professional liability/errors and omissions, directors and officers, employment practices, fiduciary, cyber, and tradename restoration, for Culver Franchising System (CFS) and family restaurants
o Use knowledge of the insurance market and the CFS business to conduct research on carriers and market conditions, review all options, and identify the optimal approach for coverage at the best possible price
o Conduct negotiations on program structure and policy terms working with carriers and brokers to optimize programs for both CFS and affinity programs appropriate for franchisees (property & casualty, cyber, trade name restoration)
o Present insights and recommendations, when necessary, to officers of Culver Franchising System for final decision
Implement and oversee captive insurance program
o Partner with third party insurance broker to create and execute the implementation plan
o Manage and lead the optimization of the program working in conjunction with legal and finance
Provide Enterprise Risk Management Oversight – create, implement, advise, train, and/or lead efforts in risk related matters, including crisis management, security, safety, business continuity, specific compliance efforts and ad hoc issues for Culver's restaurants and the CFS Support Center and family restaurants; also extends to franchisees
o Manage the risk management function and team, including environmental health and safety functions
o Develop policies, programs, and practices and conduct appropriate training to mitigate risk
o Proactively assess and identify risk through assessments, bringing insights and recommendations to the business to optimize loss control and business continuity efforts
o Provide expertise during risk/crisis events including but not limited to working closely with internal stakeholders
o Continually learn and stay connected to risk-related topics in the industry, bringing the knowledge and insights to the business
o Conduct and led periodic internal risk audits across the organization and report findings to senior leadership
Oversee Worker’s Compensation Claims Process- provide direction to claims activities, including monitoring claims frequency
o Provide subject matter expertise and direction for escalation issues
o Direct and oversee efforts to minimize claim volume including providing content for prevention training
o Encourage streamlining and efficiency efforts in administration activities
Lead and Develop Team Members – employ successful communication and coaching to enable individual and team success and engagement
• Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management or related field, Master's degree preferred
• 10 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience plus 5 years’ people management experience
• Certification of Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred
• Able to travel 5% of the time
