Position Overview
Join our team as the Benefits Administrator for Cumberland County! In this key role, you will independently manage, develop, and coordinate a variety of employee benefit programs to support our dedicated workforce. This position combines professional expertise and administrative precision to ensure our benefits meet the needs of employees, align with county objectives, and comply with legal standards. Examples of Duties
- Employees in this class work with employees to resolving issues regarding benefit coverage, claims, or personal information for the policies carried
- Completes enrollments and cancellations and answers all benefit related questions
- Maintains the benefits enrollment system and ensures data is accurate
- Works with the Director and County Administration to develop a flexible benefit plan with meets the needs of employees, the county, and legal requirements
- Monitors plans and implements changes as needed
- Presents benefit information to new employees, ensures COBRA information is provided to employees upon termination, and communicates with employees on leave of absence regarding premium payments
- Works with contracted brokerage/consulting firms to establish cafeteria plans
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major/degree in business administration, business management, public administration or a related field and three (3) years of experience in risk management, insurance claims, financing, employee benefits or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Necessary additional requirements:
Successful completion of Basic Excel and Basic Word tests will be required. Candidates selected as qualified will be contacted via email by a Human Resource representative for testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Cumberland County as such pertained to the performance of the essential duties of Benefits Coordinator
- Knowledge of principles and practices of employee benefits to include analyzing and identifying strengths and weaknesses of different programs
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
- Knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies
- Knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertained to work responsibilities.
- Ability to understand the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work.
- Ability to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with whom position interacts
- Ability to multi-task is essential
