As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and orderly conduct of detainees and inmates through a variety of essential tasks.
You will manage the intake and release of individuals from the Booking and Release Unit, maintaining strict accountability and compliance with all facility policies.
You will assist with the visitation process, facilitating virtual meetings with family members or in-person visits with attorneys and court officials, while escorting inmates to designated visitation areas.
Your duties will include conducting routine security checks to ensure the safety of both inmates and staff and maintaining a highly visible presence throughout the facility.
In directing inmate behavior, you will prevent and de-escalate potential altercations, ensuring a controlled environment.

You will also manage the delivery of critical items such as mail, medication, personal hygiene products, meals, linens, and other supplies, ensuring that detainees' needs are met while maintaining security protocols.
Special attention will be given to inmates with medical or mental health conditions, ensuring their well-being and proper care.

You will prepare inmates for court appearances and supervise daily activities, including cleaning cells, kitchens, and laundry areas.

As part of your duties, you will maintain detailed records of inmate activities and operational tasks to ensure transparency and accountability.

 Additionally, you will conduct contraband searches of inmates, vehicles, cells, and the facility itself, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Effective communication is key, and you will use radios to coordinate with fellow officers and staff to maintain order.
 You will also assist with canteen operations, distributing supplies as needed. The role requires strict attention to detail and the ability to inspect and maintain all assigned equipment to ensure operational readiness.

- Live within 60-mile radius of Cumberland County Sheriff's Office
- Have a valid North Carolina driver's license with a good Driving Record
- Have No Serious Criminal History
- Meet or exceed Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Candidate must be able to pass a comprehensive Background Investigation, Physical Abilities Test, Polygraph Examination, Psychological Examination, Medical Examination and Drug Screen

- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations pertaining to inmate detention.
