Join our Library team as a Librarian II and lead a vibrant department dedicated to empowering the community through exceptional library services and innovative programs. Examples of Duties

  • Oversees and manages the adult services department and all corresponding services, staff and programs while enforcing the rules governing the use of the library
  • Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules staff
  • Performs and ensures excellent customer service for complex reference, reader’s advisory and information and technology questions
  • Prepares and presents programs, trainings and classes for all age groups to include one-on-one and group audiences such as classes on computer skills, library resources and databases
  • Oversees, coordinates, and participates in collection management
  • Assigns duties to staff for inventory of collection, weeding outdated/worn items, and recommending replacement materials
  • As necessary, supervises staff and operations in the absence of the Branch Manager; Acts as designated Team Lead on a regular basis
  • Participates in publicity and marketing of library resources and events. Performs outreach to community groups and organizations

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Library Science and one (1) year of professional library experience, preferably including six months of supervisory experience.
Managers preference: A demonstrated ability to manage projects with minimal supervision is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library operations
  • Knowledge of reference procedures; working knowledge of circulation procedures
  • Knowledge of readers’ advisory methods and sources
  • Knowledge of current materials, literature and trends, technology and developments in periodicals, newspapers and electronic services in assigned area
  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Ability to train and supervise work of others
  • Ability to plan and schedule the workflow of professionals, paraprofessionals and clerical staff
  • Ability to analyze problems and to recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, customers and the community
  • Ability to perform library functions via automated public catalog and circulation system and implement backup procedures when necessary
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on library equipment
  • Ability to plan and provide effective services and programs
  • Ability to use good judgment in the daily supervision of services
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers
