Examples of Duties
- Enters and maintains accurate property assessment data in the CAMA system, ensuring real property tax assessments are processed correctly.
- Processes data related to tax appeals, final year-end edits, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy in assessment adjustments and timely notifications.
- Reviews and verifies real property records, including ownership details, acreage, tax classifications, legal descriptions, and other relevant information.
- Conducts research and analysis on property identification, tax assessments, and adjustments, supporting real estate closings, tax statement preparation, and discrepancy resolution.
- Prepares, reviews, and adjusts real property tax bills, ensuring corrections to tax districts and accurate processing of releases, refunds, and pro-rations to the appropriate tax accounts.
- Provides guidance and correspondence to property owners, attorneys, and stakeholders, explaining deferred estimated taxes, real estate assessments, prorations, appeal processes, and relevant policies and procedures.
- Uploads and manages real property photographs in the CAMA system, ensuring accurate visual documentation for property records.
Minimum Qualifications
Depending upon the area of assignment, employees are required to complete the North Carolina Fundamentals of Property Tax Listing and Assessing Course or the North Carolina Fundamentals of Property Tax Collection Course within 24 months of hiring date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the North Carolina Machinery Act and County tax policies concerning listing, assessment, collections and billing.
- Knowledge of procedures, laws, maps, forms and records used in real estate transfers and their relationships to other tax needs and functions.
- Knowledge of punctuation, grammar, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of routine office practices, procedures, equipment and standard clerical techniques, including a familiarity of popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs.
- Ability to screen communications, and based on content, reply or route to proper source.
- Ability to type or operate a computer with accuracy at the speed required by the position.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
