DUTIES: The Youth Home Supervisor is responsible for daily interactions with youth residents of the group home. This position will manage, train, and schedule group home staff to meet the needs of the youth. In addition, the Youth Home Supervisor is responsible for providing guidance and coaching to the group home staff. Duties of this position also include participation in family team meetings to discuss progress of youth toward program goals. The position is also responsible for monitoring the equipment/supply needs of the group home.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Four year degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in the human services field and one year of experience working with troubled youth; OR Associate degree in a human services field and three years of experience working with troubled youth; OR High school graduation and four years of experience working with troubled youth; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The Youth Home Supervisor must posses both academic requirements as well as practical experience in human behavior and dynamics. They must be able to work independently through stressful situations, provide support and guidance to youth workers, as well as reach out for support from supervisors when needed. They must possess organization, planning and prioritizing as well as writing skills. The Youth Home Supervisor must possess physical stamina as well as the ability to pace themselves due to long hours. They must be able to relate positively with adolescents.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The selected applicant for this position will be responsible for obtaining a pre-employment physical and fingerprinting check at their own expense. Additionally, a TB test and medical history form must be completed prior to employment. Must be able to attend and complete CPR/First Aid within the first 30 days of employment. Documentation of education is required.
REQUIRED MINIMUM TRAINING: Group care staff is required to have a general knowledge of behavioral, emotional, and socioeconomic problems of children and their treatment. Staff must be able to apply counseling techniques to problems both in individual as well as group sessions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The selected applicant will be subject to the following conditions prior to appointment. Failure to complete or fulfill these conditions may result in dismissal.
The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Drivers License.
Each applicant who is tendered an offer for employment for any position with Cumberland County shall be tested for the use of drugs specified in the County policy. Refusal to submit to testing or a confirmed positive test shall be a basis for withdrawal of the conditional employment offer.
Law enforcement background check is required.
Duties of this position require the use of the employees personal vehicle.
This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a strict dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
