Job Summary
To carry out duties and responsibilities of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office by assisting in civil, criminal and public service law enforcement.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide security for county-owned and/or leased properties and persons within those buildings and provide security for the courts.
- Maintain accurate knowledge of Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure to serve and enforce Orders of Court, Protection from Abuse Orders, Writs of Summons, Complaints, Money Judgements, Executions, Possessions, and Injunctions, and serve Subpoenas to victims and witnesses.
- Issue several types of licenses, such as license to sell firearms, license to sell precious metals, and license to carry firearms to qualified applicants; revoke licenses of individuals that disqualify themselves after issuance.
- Process and execute all warrants issued by the courts; attempt to locate those individuals and bring them before the court in a timely manner.
- Provide safe and secure transportation of prisoners to and from federal, state and local institutions for court appearances. Provide safe and secure transportation of juveniles to facilities as directed by order of the court, and transport inmates to and from mental health facilities.
- Maintain accurate knowledge of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code and Pennsylvania Vehicle Code to perform law enforcement duties and make arrests; assist with the investigation of crimes involving County employees or County-owned and/or leased properties. Assist local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in emergency situations.
- Attend meetings, seminars and in-service training as required.
- Educate the public through community service programs such as the Child ID program and Child Safety Seat Inspection program.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Education
- Qualified candidate must possess a high school diploma.
- Qualified candidate must have one or any combination of the following: a four-year degree related to the criminal justice field, military experience, or two years' work experience in a related field.
- Must be able to successfully pass the physical fitness test administered during the interview phase.
- Preference will be given for applicants that are Act 2/Act 120 Certified.
- A minimum of two years' experience in law enforcement or related field.
- Must successfully complete Deputy Sheriff's Act 2 certification within one year from date of hire.
- Must successfully maintain Deputy Sheriff's Act 2 certification through Deputy Sheriff's Training updates bi-annually.
- Must qualify semi-annually in firearms proficiency in accordance with Sheriff's Office policy.
- Must certify and maintain certification annually with ASP, OC spray and Taser.
- Must certify and maintain certification in Adult CPR/AED, Child/Infant CPR, and First Aid.
- Must certify and maintain certification in Standard Field Sobriety Testing.
- Must certify and maintain certification annually in First Responder Hazmat.
