TITLE: Occupational Therapy Assistant
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant program and hold a current NCBOT license to practice as an occupational therapy assistant in the state of North Carolina. Pediatric experience is preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a caseload of approximately 50-100 monthly student treatments with supervision from the Occupational Therapist.
- Collaborates with the Occupational Therapist regarding the progress of students on caseload and reports significant changes in student status.
- Writes progress notes following each treatment session and documents all communication regarding students.
- Administers (but not interprets) standardized tests as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Communicates with the classroom teachers regarding the students’ progress and gives classroom suggestions to help meet IEP goals.
- Supervises teachers (caregivers)/students in return demonstration of therapy procedures taught to them.
- Grades student IEP progress quarterly and submits copy to teacher to send home with student report card.
- Informs supervising OT of student IEP expiration date, IEP planning meetings, and IEP team meetings.
- Attends IEP meetings as needed.
- Assists with fabricating splints and other adaptive equipment as needed.
- Attends OT/PT staff meetings.
- Assists with providing inservices for school staff
- Assists with Occupational Therapy Department program planning and ordering of equipment.
- Maintains professional license criteria according to guidelines set by the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy including 10 hours of continuing education per year.
- Submits billable minutes of direct OT treatment per Medicaid billing procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Must have finger dexterity and be physically able to perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Hand and finger dexterity for accurate input and output of computer data.
- Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word.
