The primary purpose of this position is to provide services to clients in a clinical/programmatic setting as directed by the RN/ Provider (ERRN) within the scope of practice.
Duties included but are not limited to:
- Provide information to individuals and families who are recipients of local health services, including test results, interviews, and appointments.
- Escort patients to their destination and prepare patient for examination by provider.
- Obtain personal and medical history from the patient, including information on return visits for health history and medication compliance.
- Operate specific medical equipment relevant to job functions, ensuring safe and effective usage.
- Request, review, document in, and return patient medical records as necessary.
- Assemble patient charts with the appropriate forms needed for visits.
- Assist with maintaining supply orders and inventory for the clinical areas.
- Ensure exams rooms are clean and clutter free.
- Prepare patient for examination by provider by obtaining height, weight, and vital signs, including hearing and vision.
- Assist providers and nurses with standard nursing assignments and laboratory functions
Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.
High school or General Educational Development diploma, completion of a one-year formal training course in medical office assisting at a community college or technical institute; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and a combination of one year of clerical and health/dental related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Management Preference
Current listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

- Thorough knowledge of skills needed as a medical office assistant as well as knowing procedures and medical terminology.
- Some knowledge of resources and organizations that work closely with public health.
- Must have good communication skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use sound judgment and empathy with clients.
- Some knowledge of health and safety precautions is needed to operate in this position.
- Must have good clerical skills and be able to maintain/compile clerical records and reports.
- Must maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA Policy and Procedures.
- Ability to work with staff and patients, under supervision, as set up by departmental policies.
- Employee must have excellent internal and external customer service skills in all types of communications (in person, telephone, and via email).
- Employee must present a professional appearance and represent the agency favorably at all times.
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
