Cumberland Mutual is seeking a Technical Lead to join our Team. This position will operate out of the Ontario, Ohio office. Cumberland Mutual offers flexibility in promoting a hybrid work schedule consisting of physically reporting to the Ohio office two (2) days per week and working remotely from home the remaining three (3) days. A full remote schedule may be considered. 

This is a staff position within IT whose role is to analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain the Duck Creek Policy software application throughout the production life cycle in support of the achievement of business requirements. This includes requirements assistance, coding, code review, documentation, source code management and project management.  This individual is a subject matter expert for a specific application and will also provide mentoring, support, guidance and training to the applications developers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Remain current on software design and coding standards made by vendor
• Work closely with the applications architect to maintain a consistent approach to coding
• Lead code review sessions to help train developers
• Review code commits in their area of expertise
• Assist developers to identify solutions to more complex or difficult issues
• Recommend solutions when required based on business requirements and system design
• Code, test, debug, document and install modified and new programs
• Collaborate with developers and designers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications
• Translate business needs and requirements into applications changes
• Develop detailed documentation for the operation of programs by users and computer operators
• Use coding methods for specific programming language to enhance or initiate efficient program execution and performance and to reach optimum hardware utilization
• Maintain quality and security standards to limit production issues
• Monitor production programs for expected performance and respond to errors and emergency problems
• Work with production problems to find root cause and recommended solution
• Work within specifications provided to meet programming assignment goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner
• Take independent action to correct problems encountered during systems operations within authority level granted by IT Applications Manager
• Organize, plan and prioritize work for all developers in their area of expertise
• Establish required checks and balances for operational controls
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer operating procedures and operating standards
• Work well under pressure and can work independently or as part of a team
• Provide feedback to manager or supervisor on developer progress
• Organize and execute code moves with little to no support
• Maintain accurate statuses of all projects in workflow application (Salesforce)
• Assist in creating and maintaining coding standards

Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree in computer science or information systems or equivalent experience
• At least seven years of experience as a developer in Duck Creek Policy, including at least four years performing analyst duties and one year coaching other developers
• Excellent general knowledge of data processing system design methods, techniques and standards
• Property and Casualty insurance experience strongly preferred
