POSITION TITLE: Financial Aid Advisor
DEPARTMENT: Financial Aid
SUPERVISOR: Executive Director of Financial Aid
GENERAL JOB FUNCTION
This position is responsible to assist prospective, current, and past Cumberland University students with the Financial Aid process through the timely processing of financial aid paperwork.
STANDARD EXPECTATIONS
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- To possess the understanding of and the commitment to the University Mission.
- To answer questions either by phone, email, and video or in person, and conduct follow-up communications with students, parents, faculty and staff as needed to ensure the award process is completed in a timely manner.
- To assist in the collection and verification of data ensuring the information is accurate and timely.
- To provide the first-line contact for students, parents, faculty and staff for the Financial Aid Office.
- To counsel prospective students and their families regarding the financial assistance process and the possibilities for aid at Cumberland University.
- To package aid for an assigned caseload using federal, state and institutional guidelines.
- To complete the award letter for an assigned caseload as the awards and student applications are received and processed.
- To maintain current knowledge of financial assistance in Higher Education, either through studies or seminars.
- Performs other duties/tasks as may be assigned and/or requested by the supervisor and/or superior.
- Participates in and completes a Performance Management Process, which follows the guidelines set forth by the University.
DECISION MAKING AND MANAGEMENT
Performs duties and responsibilities with moderate supervision. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities in agreement with supervisor and/or superior. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Associate degree
Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher degree
1 - 2 years' work experience in a related field
