Cumberland Youth and Family Services has a 100 year history of keeping kids safe and families together. Our programs and services support youth in foster care, young adults aging out of care and vulnerable, single-parent families. Cumberland is developing a Child Placing Agency to provide foster care services to recruit, train, monitor and support family-based foster care homes within Denton County. https://www.cumberlandservices.org/
Position Description:
Candidate must be comfortable with interacting with foster/adoptive and kinship applicants through licensing process, public speaking, presenting in different venues and capacities, be outgoing, enjoy networking and want to make a difference in the lives of children and families! Traveling within the region for recruitment fairs, representing the agency in church congregations or other community events will be required. Nights and/or weekends may be required for training or recruiting events.
Position Requirements
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or an applicable human service-related field preferred
- Minimum two-years’ experience working in child welfare services. One year of experience in a child-placing setting preferred, but not required
- Working knowledge of Minimum Standards for Child Placing Agency
- Must complete background checks required by Texas Department of Family & Protective Services (DFPS) Central Registry, Texas Department of Public Safety, national fingerprint registry, and drug/alcohol testing
- A valid Texas Driver’s License
Key Expectations/Responsibilities:
- Recruit, screen and enroll host homes into Cumberland’s Child Placing Agency
- Identifying, educating and screening for potential foster parents in designated communities
- Ability to work under moderate supervision with awareness that error may have serious consequences.
- Applicants must have experience working with at-risk youth and families involved with a Child Placing Agency
- Completes all steps required by Cumberland Policy and Procedure, the Minimum Standards, and the DFPS Contract in order to verify foster home.
- Exercises patience, tactfulness, initiative, judgment, and prudence in confidentiality (following established guidelines as well as in being respectful of clients, other agencies, and co-workers).
- Personality attuned to the requirements of meeting needs of the employees and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Conducts trainings for potential foster parents during the verification process
- Plans and implements foster family events, support groups, and throughout the year to encourage retention of foster homes
- Will require being on call and work evenings and weekends
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 25 pounds occasionally, up to 40 pounds infrequently.
- Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 25% of the day; sitting 75% of the day.
- The employee is regularly required to speak or hear, may bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
- Position includes exposure to parents, guardians, and conservators as well as to youth with behavioral problems, including possible verbal or physical aggression

Pay: $42,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
