- Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop
- Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles
- Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
- Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
- Maintain own tools
(Intermediate):
- Applies documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools Disassemble, clean and inspect chassis and /or chassis components
- Performs preventative maintenance based on assessment of chassis and chassis components
- Assists more experienced technicians with diagnostics and development of chassis repair plans in the workshop
- Completes required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens
- Completes training in line with skill and business requirements
- Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation Adheres to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to their supervisor
Diagnosis and Repair:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repair and replace faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, fluid checks, and lubrication.
- Inspect and adjust safety devices and protective guards.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) inspections and services.
- Follow maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders.
- Communicate with service advisors, shop managers, and customers regarding repairs and issues.
- Proficiently use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized tools for heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Operate lifts, jacks, and other shop equipment safely.
- Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- May be required to test drive vehicles to diagnose issues.
- May assist with other shop duties as needed.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, mechanics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair complex problems.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lift heavy parts and tools.
- Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy environment.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal training in diesel mechanics or related field preferred.
- Relevant experience in heavy-duty diesel repair.
- A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire
- Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older
- A current valid license is required for this role
- This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations
- This role requires applicant to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
- 3 years driving experience
- This role is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) driving regulations including Hours of Service and Electronic Log Booking Device use
- Federal law requires operators of commercial vehicles to be 21 years of age or older, applicant must be 21 years of age
