Description

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Enhancing Measurement Accuracy : By applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science, you’ll ensure precise and reliable test systems and processes.
  • Supporting Product Testing : Conducting product and component testing using various measurement methods will help validate product quality and performance.
  • Optimizing Test Procedures : Utilizing and improving established testing procedures, including automated ones, will streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Technical Resource : Assisting lab managers, engineers, and customers in selecting appropriate test methods and technologies will enhance the overall testing strategy and outcomes.
  • Data Interpretation : Analyzing and interpreting measurement data will provide valuable insights for product development and quality assurance.
  • Quality Assurance : Participating in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs will help maintain high standards and consistency in measurement results.
  • Maintaining Standards : Applying knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AITF 16949) and Cummins procedures will ensure compliance and uphold the laboratory’s quality system.
  • Continuous Improvement : Engaging in continuous improvement activities related to data quality and the lab quality system will drive ongoing enhancements and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Effective Communication : Develop and deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences. This ensures that everyone, from engineers to customers, understands the information being conveyed.
  • Customer Focus : Build strong relationships with customers and deliver solutions that are centered around their needs. Understanding and addressing customer requirements will be crucial.
  • Data Quality : Identify, understand, and correct any flaws in data to support effective information governance. This will enhance decision-making processes and ensure the reliability of measurement results.
  • Dimensional Metrology : Apply dimensional measurement science to develop and implement measurement/inspection processes. This will ensure capable measurement results that support design validation and conformity assessment, meeting regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Measurement Science : Analyze measurement processes to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty. This involves understanding various types of metrology, such as chemical, dimensional, electrical, mechanical, optical, radiation, and physical.
  • Valuing Differences : Recognize and appreciate the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to the organization. This will foster a more inclusive and innovative work environment.
  • Laboratory Management : Lead technical resources while managing the business aspects of the laboratory. Ensure that both technical and business requirements are met, and that the laboratory maintains appropriate certifications and accreditations.
  • Continuous Improvement : Engage in continuous improvement activities related to data quality and the lab quality system. This will drive ongoing enhancements and operational excellence.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Prefer some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Qualifications

Additional Information:

  • CMM programming skills needed to measure variety of parts to ensure they meet specifications (Zeiss Calypso proficiency preferred)
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and basic math skills are required
  • Blueprint reading skills, understanding of (GD&T) and familiarity with surface finish measurement is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed for customer interaction
  • Job involves frequent use of hoist and crane to lift and load-unload heavy engine heads and blocks (will need medical clearance)
  • Weekend coverage will be needed as and when business needs arise
  • This position will also involve administrative work of handling Purchase Orders, use of calibration management system, vendor interaction and management
  • Gage calibration team support as and when needed.
