Job Overview:
The Cunningham Township Supervisor's Office (CTSO) employs a Street Outreach Worker to provide street-based outreach to individuals and families who are homeless as defined by HUD Category 1(i) to address their urgent need and connect them with housing, transportation, phones, food, clothing, and other critical needs like access to vital documents. This program is grant funded and will run until those funds are expended.
CTSO is a public office led by elected Supervisor, Danielle Chynoweth. Our 18 staff helped over 5,000 residents access income, housing, food, transportation and other assistance in 2023. Our diverse team is dedicated to advocating for and with our neighbors in need, guided by principles of social justice, equity, cooperation, and love.
Job Duties:
- Conduct proactive street outreach in the community, visiting homeless encampments and locations where homeless residents may reside.
- Receive and respond to referrals for street outreach services from organizations, businesses, churches, neighbors, and street homeless individuals.
- Respond to the needs of homeless participants during on-call hours.
- Build trusting relationships with individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness, assessing their needs and offering material support, transportation, referrals, etc..
- Complete the homeless outreach needs assessment and obtain relevant information.
- Assist in obtaining housing readiness documentation, including identification, social security care, and income verification.
- Provide homeless verification/certification.
- Support participants with substance abuse and mental health concerns to access all available resources.
- Provide advocacy for people experiencing homelessness when they encounter barriers.
- Conduct regular wellness checks with participants in care.
- Provide backup support for outreach staff on the front desk or in the office.
- Maintain complete, accurate and confidential digital files for participants.
- Maintain information for accurate count of current/expanded emergency beds during severe weather events.
- Maintain daily activity logs, mileage logs, and other reports as directed.
- Complete daily vehicle inspection report on van, cleaning and maintain all safety conditions in the van
- Make recommendations for program improvements to Outreach Team Lead
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years experience in working directly with homeless or vulnerable populations.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in a human services field, a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Able to lift supplies in and out of the van.
- Must be able to de-escalate, self regulate, hold boundaries, and bring in additional support as needed.
- Highly organized, motivated, and able to work independently.
- Extremely responsive and trustworthy.
- Committed to social and racial equity and trauma-informed care.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of all economic, racial and gender identities.
- Basic office technology: Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Google docs, case management software.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Spanish, French, or ASL fluency is a plus.
