Assistant Professor (Political Theory) - Political Science

The Hunter College Political Science Department is hiring for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in political theory, beginning Fall 2025, pending final college approval. Candidates whose research addresses race, empire, colonialism, ecology, technology, or indigeneity will be preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach American Political Thought and potentially develop additional courses for the US Experience in its Diversity component of the Hunter College Core Curriculum.
This position involves conducting research, contributing to departmental administration, participating in university programs, and potentially having the option to join the faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent required; applicants must have a PhD in hand by the positions starting date. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
