Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, the Associate Dean of Faculty is a senior staff member in the Office of Academic Affairs and a member of the President’s Cabinet. The Associate Dean provides strategic leadership for the entire full- and part-time faculty and oversees their personnel processes including recruitment and hiring, mentoring, evaluation, reappointment, tenure, and promotion.
Responsibilities include the following:
• Provide leadership and oversight for the Faculty Appointments unit, ensuring thorough vetting of faculty hiring and appointment processes, and upholding the integrity of reappointment, promotion, tenure, and faculty workload tracking procedures for both full-time and part-time faculty.
• Oversee the operations of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (CETLS), which offers faculty development workshops focused on innovative pedagogy, trauma informed pedagogy, emancipatory pedagogy, and academic mindset.
• Design, coordinate, and facilitate faculty orientations, training sessions, consultations, and professional development workshops.
• Lead initiatives to support the development of department chairs and program directors, with a focus on enhancing leadership capabilities and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the Faculty Personnel Committee to develop and uphold guidelines, policies, and academic standards.
• Address faculty-related grievances that are unresolved at the departmental level, ensuring fair and equitable outcomes.
• Partner with the Labor Designee and Office of Legal Counsel to interpret collective bargaining agreements and assist in resolution of formal complaints, grievances and disciplinary actions involving faculty.
• Work in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Compliance to promote and sustain a diverse and inclusive faculty community.
• Develop, implement, and enhance faculty development programs aligned with the College’s strategic goals and academic priorities.
• Facilitate collaboration between Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and CETLS to promote faculty-led initiatives that improve student retention and completion outcomes.
• Serve as a liaison between the students, faculty, and administration to strengthen communication.
• Collaborate with the College’s governance body to develop effective processes for student evaluation of faculty.
• Serve on College-wide and CUNY-wide governance committees as a representative of the Office of Academic Affairs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• A Ph.D. from an accredited college/university and rank of tenured, full professor.
• Significant teaching experience (7-10 years), preferably at a community college with at least 3 years’ experience leading faculty as chair or program director.
• Record of scholarly/professional publication, presentation, and/or creative activity.
• A demonstrated history of successful networks and working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external constituencies.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated administrative, supervisory, and faculty development experience with a record of increasing responsibility in higher education, preferably at a community college.
• Working knowledge of teaching/learning technologies and pedagogical best practices across instructional modalities.
• Familiarity with CUNY policies governing faculty appointments, reappointment, tenure and promotion.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $140,000 - $150,000, commensurate with education and experience.
