Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean provides academic and administrative leadership for the Health Sciences and Nursing departments. The Nursing department includes programs such as Nursing AAS, Licensed Practical Nursing (Certificate), and Nursing Secretary (SPS) AAS. Additionally, Allied Health Science covers programs such as Paramedic AAS, Respiratory Therapy AAS, Health Information Technology AAS, and Health Information Technology Certificate. The Dean plays a pivotal role in shaping college-wide policies and advancing college and university initiatives.
The Dean is responsible for establishing long- and short-term goals while overseeing academic program planning, faculty affairs, and administrative functions, including staffing, budget management, and facilities oversight. The Dean fosters a high-quality academic environment that supports teaching excellence, research, and intellectual achievement. As a strong advocate, the Dean builds and strengthens partnerships within and beyond the College, while supporting the College's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Dean leads strategic initiatives across the Health Sciences and Nursing departments, including strategic planning, learning outcome assessments, accreditation processes, and curriculum development.
Responsibilities
• Provide visionary and strategic leadership for the Health Sciences and Nursing departments.
• Lead strategic planning and creation of new programs, including faculty recruitment, review, and development, in collaboration with Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and the Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC).
• Advocate for and allocate resources to advance faculty recruitment, high-quality teaching, faculty research, professional development, and academic programs.
• Collaborate with departments to develop a comprehensive vision for student success and effectively communicate this vision to students, faculty, and internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure responsible financial management, including budget planning and oversight.
• Maintain the academic quality, integrity, and reputation of all departmental programs.
• Collect, analyze, and utilize data to inform decision-making.
• Oversee program reviews, establish objectives and priorities, and monitor projects to ensure effectiveness, compliance with budgetary parameters, and successful completion.
• Manage program and course approval processes, course scheduling, faculty workload distribution, student advising, degree audits, transcript reviews, and articulation agreements.
• Support the College’s efforts to educate a highly skilled healthcare workforce.
• Lead initiatives in student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and degree completion in collaboration with the Office of Enrollment Management.
• Partner with the Office of Institutional Advancement to develop a strategic plan for securing funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support key initiatives in Health Sciences and Nursing.
• Foster academic planning and innovative curricular and scholarly development, while encouraging grant writing, enhancing engagement with alumni and the community, and promoting technological innovations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
Preferred Qualifications:
• An earned Ph.D., or terminal degree in a health sciences-related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
• A record of academic achievement warranting appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic department at the College.
• Expertise in program development and policy oversight, ensuring strict compliance with accreditation, state, and federal academic regulations.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations.
• Demonstrated success in academic leadership roles such as dean, department chair, or director, with a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship, particularly in an urban public higher education setting serving diverse populations.
• Capacity for innovative leadership in curricular and program development.
• Experience in enrollment management, including collaboration with clinical sites, employers, and community partners.
• Commitment to attracting, supporting, and retaining highly qualified faculty.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas, plans, and institutional vision effectively.
• A track record of developing and implementing creative solutions to strategic challenges.
• Documented experience in budget management and resource allocation.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $160,000 - $185,000; commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
