CUPERTINO UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT Cupertino, California JOB DESCRIPTION PRINCIPAL, MIDDLE SCHOOL (6-8)   Under the direction of the Superintendent and with support form District administrators, serves as the site instructional leader and manager; administers school-wide curriculum and all phases of the instructional program and management of the facility; provides leadership, administrative and supervisory skills for the educational development of students; and promotes parent and community engagement. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Leads and monitors implementation of curriculum alignment with state standards, performance-based assessments, use of instructional technology and articulation efforts. 2. Participates in the planning, coordination and delivery of appropriate staff development to ensure the continued professional growth of faculty and staff. 3. Oversees the proper maintenance and care of all buildings, equipment and campus grounds. 4. Provides appropriate professional channels for communicating personal and professional concerns of school personnel. 5. Maintains good relationships with students, staff and parents, and complies with established lines of authority. 6. Plans, organizes and implements a school-wide program for the supervision, monitoring, safety and security of students, buildings and grounds. 7. Maintains awareness of educational trends and developments as they relate to school program development. 8. Works closely and cooperatively as a member of the District management team. 9. Acknowledge accomplishments of staff members and students.

  2. Establishes, maintains and nurtures effective working relationships with parents, community members, students and school related outside agencies.
  3. Develops school goals and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
  4. Ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of the District.
  5. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve medical, attitude, discipline and learning problems.
  6. Develops, maintains and oversees the school’s budget.
  7. Establishes, implements and evaluates procedures used to carry out the daily routine of the school.
  8. Ensures that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed, and involves the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program.
  9. Maintains inter-school system communication and implements emergency communication procedures.
  10. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program as required by law.
  11. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the work of credentialed and classified staff members at the school site.
  12. Participates in the selection of school site personnel.
  13. Approves master schedule of teaching schedules and special assignments.
  14. Supervises extra-curricular activities.
  15. Attends professional meetings and other meetings regarding District and school business, SST's, IEP's, etc.
  16. Evaluates student progress in the instructional program through effective communication with teachers, counselors and review of student records.
  17. Manages, directs, and maintains records on the materials, supplies and equipment which are necessary to carry out the daily school routine.
  18. Maintains awareness of community resources available to assist students.
  19. Meets with students and parents concerning student issues.
  20. Maintains high standard of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
  21. Monitors standardized test results of students at the school site and completes related reports.
  22. Serves on school and District committees and organizations to assure the interests of the school are properly served.
  23. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: 1. Community relations. 2. Program evaluation. 3. Instructional supervision. 4. Principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction. 5. Classroom procedures which promote appropriate student conduct and motivation for student learning. 6. Child guidance principles and practices. 7. Principles of training and providing work direction. 8. Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws. 9. Applicable state advisory documents, the State Framework in all subjects taught and District curriculum standards appropriate to their teaching assignment.

  2. School improvement programs.
  3. Current trends and research concerning the growth and development of school-age students.
  4. Employee evaluation processes.
  5. School site budget processes and accountability.
  6. Other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Ability to: 1. Monitor children on the school site. 2. Assist school staff in improving the academic progress of students. 3. Schedule classes and assign students and teachers according to regulations. 4. Exercise sound judgment in making decisions. 5. Respond supportively to the changing rules and regulations related to education and curriculum. 6. Work independently with little direction and provide work direction to others. 7. Develop and provide effective presentations to a variety of audiences. 8. Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. 9. Maintain confidentiality.

  1. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  2. Assist in the research of new theories, best practices and/or trends to improve operation of the school site.
  3. Attend conferences and workshops to maintain current knowledge of regulations, requirements and best practices.
  4. Assist in the preparation of the annual site budget, and assist in the monitoring of budgetary expenditures.
  5. Direct, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
  6. Interview and select employees and recommend disciplinary actions.
  7. Coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates.
  8. Develop programs and activities that promote diversity acceptance and a positive school environment.
  9. Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  10. Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.
  11. Oversee the work of instructional aides and ensure NCLB compliance.
  12. Motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil's ability.
  13. Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and supervising staff members.
Credential, Education, Experience 1. Possession of or eligibility for a California Administrative Services Credential. 2. Master’s degree in Education/Instructional Leadership or related field preferred. 3. Experience as a teacher or site administrator. 4. Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver License.

Salary : $173,468 - $215,630
