POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for all aspects of orthotics, including evaluation, application, modification, and instructions. This is a non-exempt hourly position.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assesses, formulates and implements treatment plans, and follows up with patients.
- Collaborates with physicians in the evaluation and analysis of a patient’s need for prosthetic and/or orthotic services.
- Examines and evaluates patient needs resulting from disease and functional loss.
- Formulates designs, selects materials, makes cast measurements, and modifies models and layouts of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
- Evaluates prosthetic and/or orthotic devices on patients and adjusts them to ensure fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work.
- Maintains patient records and instructs patients in proper use of prostheses and orthopedic devices.
- Identifies and reconciles issues or problems to ensure patient satisfaction with the devices provided.
- Provides in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals.
- Utilizes effective materials management and quality and performance processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy while maintaining a proper balance with costs and operational/financial performance.
- Adheres to all safety regulations, including compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations, as well as bloodborne pathogens and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Active board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC) and is good standing with their certifying body.
- A baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics.
- Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in working with patients and infection control procedures and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of age-related hazards and safety considerations for orthopedic patients.
- Knowledge of common pediatric orthotic devices.
- Ability to work independently or with indirect supervision.
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and reach throughout the day.
- Frequently required to use fine hand coordination and manual dexterity to perform accurate data entry on the computer.
- Frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and patient body fluids.
- Occasionally required to stop, bend, and crouch while assisting patients.
- Occasionally required to move up to 20 lbs. May need to assist patients in a wheelchair or transport to a stretcher and safely support the full weight of a patient.
